`Chasing Mavericks` inspirational, surfs up ambition

An inspirational movie, thoroughly warm with human emotions and entertaining, "Chasing Mavericks" is a guide on `how to chase your dreams`.

It is a true, touching story of teenage surfing legend - Jay Moriarity and his guru Frosty Hesson, and how they connect way more than on a wave!

The film focuses on Jay (Jonny Weston), a decent kid with a dream, a battered surfboard and a troubled family life. His dad has abandoned him and his mother, played by Elisabeth Shue, is sloshed and depressed most of the time.

As a young boy, Jay is fascinated with huge waves that line up the shores of his home town, Santa Cruz in California. During his spare moments, he times the rhythm of the waves. This hobby gives way to a desire to ride them, when after an accident, he bumps into an irascible surfer Frosty Hesson (Gerard Butler).

As a young boy, during his early surfing sessions, Jay`s soon-to-be-friend tells him that "nobody gets it right on their first try" at surfing. This friend mentors him. Jay surfs the waves successfully, but that`s not enough for him to ride the gigantic Mavericks.

In his early teens, Jay approaches Frosty with a request to teach him how to ride the Mavericks. After initially refusing to comply with the request, Frosty relents. He agrees to teach Jay how to survive the waves.

As Frosty emphasises on the power of observation and lessons on fear and panic, the film gets it right by showing what`s required to surf really big waves. Jay is made to paddleboard long distances and demonstrate that he can hold his breath for four minutes without panic.

For some human conflict, there is a local toughie who has been bullying him since grade school. And on the romantic front, there is Kim (Leven Rambin), the girl he got a crush on at nine and eventually marries.

Blonde, with a chiselled bronzed physique and startling blue eyes, Jonny Weston definitely looks the part of a young surfer on the rise.

Weston as Frosty is compelling and complex. A fine actor, he struggles in Butler`s dominating presence, whereas he excels in scenes with Rambin, or when he is surfing or when he is alone.

As usual, Butler has shown his great passion for becoming his character. He nailed his role as a compassionate, yet rugged surfing mentor.

Meanwhile, Shue, a fine actress as Weston`s drunken mom, is seriously wasted here. Most of the time, she is seen passed out in bed, while Jay cooks and wakes her up when she oversleeps, which is always.

With incredible cinematography by Bill Pope, the film captures the unique view of one of the most beautiful coastlines in northern California along with its hypnotic watery landscape.

The photography itself, particularly of the surf, is spectacular. If the surfing scenes are real, then they`re breathtaking; if they`re faked, then they`ve been faked brilliantly.

None of the film`s many flaws really matter when Jay or Frosty hop on the surf board and ride the waves. Some of the scenes are fairly predictable, but if you don`t know Jay Moriarity`s story - yes, he was real, a near legend at 16 and was dead by 23 - then the story is likely not very predictable at all.

If you are familiar with Moriarity`s story, it shouldn`t negate the emotional impact of the film`s ending.

If you`re looking for a good film, one that distracts you from everyday hustle and bustle or leaves you feeling better than you did when you came in, then this is it.

See it for the spectacular surfing!

Knew I’d be painted as villain in YRF-ADF tussle: Ajay Devgn

Now that the war between Ajay Devgn and Yash Raj Films has thickened over the number of screens alloted for the release of ‘Son of Sardaar‘ and late Yash Chopra’s ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan‘, the actor-producer insists that he is waging a “fair” fight and knew he would be painted as a villain after he served a legal notice on the issue.

Ajay Devgn Films (ADF) has filed a complaint in The Competition Commission Of India (CCI) alleging that Yash Raj Films (YRF), headed by the legendary filmmaker, had used its dominant position following which Devgn’s movie is not finding enough single screen theatres for his film’s exhibition.

The 43-year-old actor said that he had filed the notice much before the demise of Yash Chopra (21 October).

“I had filed the complaint much before the demise of Yash Chopra. When this happened I was like people are going to target me and nobody is going to understand my point of view… I was a villain on both sides. I couldn’t withdraw it (notice) from the Competition Commission… It is not a normal court,” Ajay told PTI.

“I respected Yashji as much anybody else does. We have grown up watching his films,” he added.
Both are awaited movies of the year, given the fact that ‘JTHJ‘ is late filmmaker Chopra’s last directorial before his sudden death last month, marking the union of Chopra with powerbrand Shah Rukh Khan after eight years, and ‘SoS‘ is ADF’s trademark Diwali entertainer high on comic expectations.

Ajay claims that YRF has ‘armtwisted’ exhibitors to dedicate more screens to ‘JTHJ‘, than his ‘SoS‘, both of which are up for release on 13 November.

He insists that he has been fighting for his right and asking only for a fair view on the matter. “I am fighting for my right. I am not asking anyone to stop the release of a film, I am not asking for compensation, I am asking them to be fair,” he said.

“I want both the films to do well. Even by filing this I don’t think I have done anything that will harm anyone. If I lose then it won’t be my benefit but if I win also it won’t be a loss to anyone,” he added.

Ajay also said he has no grudges against anyone as he is fighting for his rights as a producer. “I have put forward my grievances. I don’t have issues with anyone. Tomorrow if this thing gets solved we will be like one big family.. I will not keep any grudges against anyone,” he said.

Though the controversy came to light recently but the issue has been going on for almost three months.

“We have been fighting on this with the exhibitors and distributors to a point where they cannot do anything. And then we decided to go to Competition Commission which took us more than a month as there is a lot of paper work involved. It’s been almost going on for three months,” Ajay said.

“I was like how easily and smoothly we can solve it…It is good. It is eventually negative publicity and I don’t want that… Even if I want to fight with them I will try to make my product better,” he added.

Ajay also reveals that before taking the legal step, he tried to convey his message to Yash Raj Films on the matter, but as nothing fruitful came out he resorted to filing a notice.

“Through people messages were sent and things were spoken. Directly I haven’t met them …I don’t share that rapport with them. And through exhibitors themselves we tried to manage things but when it did not happen..then,” he said.

“In my 20 years of career I am not like someone who would get involved into any controversy…I hate controversy and I tried to be away from it. But what has to be done it has to be done,” he said.

Earlier, YRF in a statement had claimed to have booked less than 1,500 single screens out of the 10,500-plus single screens available on all-India basis.

“We would like to clarify at the outset that we still haven’t received any notice from the Commission and will suitably represent our stance if and when called upon to do so,” the statement had said.

However, shedding light on the number of screens available to ADF, Ajay said out of the total 10,000 screens only a handful of them were given to ‘Son of Sardaar’.

“Out of the 10,000 screens if they have booked 1,500 and I have 8,000 screens then am I fool to spend money and lose my reputation and go to court. It does not make sense logically. Secondly going by the statistics then out of the 10,000-12,000 screens more than 5,000-6,000 are in South where only regional films release,” he said.

“Then in the remaining 4,000-4,500 screens 1,500–2,000 are closed… Those which are operational are less. For example in Dadar there are about seven single screen theatres they have booked six, in Delhi there are 21 single screens we have three.. This is something that has never happened before.. You can verify it,” he added.

Breaking down Modi: efficient administrator or undemocratic leader?

The Modi phenomenon is an amalgam of conflicting perceptions, both positive and negative.

There are always two ways to look at him. He is an efficient administrator and a competent manager, yet he is too undemocratic in decision-making; he has maintained the naturally progressive state’s growth momentum — it is comparable to the best in the country, if not the best — but the growth has been inequitable; he has brought industries to the state but there’s been no matching growth in employment; Gujarat is vibrant under Modi but it ranks pretty low in the Human Development Index; and he is a visionary with firm faith in the idea of progress but he does not measure up when it comes to the concept of social inclusion.

The way one perceives him depends a lot on where one puts the moral emphasis. But if elections are a referendum on either of the two, Modi is a clear winner. He is going to win the elections hands down — that’s the general impression in the state. However, his victory this time won’t be as massive as different pre-poll surveys would have us believe. The trend of a declining number of seats — in 2002 it was 127 and the number came down to 117 in 2007 — despite rising vote share could continue.

The Modi factor is overwhelming in Gujarat and easily overshadows all other issues that are normally relevant during elections. The voting would simply be either for him or against him. The meticulous construction of this personality cult has been a unique exercise ever since Modi came to power a decade ago. The mother organisation RSS abhors it as does his own party, the BJP. However, the chief minister has been relentless.

“He is a fantastic organiser. He micro manages everything and is brilliant at marketing himself,’’ says senior political analyst RK Mishra. “The Modi phenomenon is a beautifully manufactured myth. He is a genius at planning things for the furtherance of his own interests… Now, the BJP is dead in the state. He is the party and he is the government…,’’ he adds while narrating the career path of the one-time RSS organiser with humble origins.Certainly, Modi the person towers over Modi the BJP leader at present. He is much bigger a presence than the RSS and its well-networked affiliates in Gujarat too. For a party which makes no bones about its hatred of the Congress for its dependence on the Gandhi family, the Gujarat chief minister stands as an interesting contradiction within. As he grows bigger and expands his footprint on the national scene, the party as well as the Sangh Parivar will need to find a proper answer to him. But that is another subject.

“There’s no doubt that he is a popular leader. He has great following in the urban areas and people know him inside Gujarat. His achievements in urban areas have been spectacular and overall he is a success as a chief minister. However, the Modi phenomenon is a product of brilliant marketing of his personality,” says Ajay Umat,  senior political observer and journalist.

“Every leader in power tries to manufacture a positive image for himself. However, Modi goes several notches ahead. No other leader has done better in branding himself. The phenomenon is a product of good marketing, image building and brand positioning. He is an exceptional event manager when it comes to promoting himself. Possibly no other leader in the world or in the country, forget Gujarat, has been so focused on self-image. If I were to award marks to him for the exercise, I would give him a hundred out of hundred without hesitation,’’ he adds.

The building of the personality cult comes at a price to the state. Mishra points to the burden on the state exchequer — to the tune of crores of rupees — from every event involving Modi, which by demand must be grand and larger-than-life. He says Apco Worldwide has been brought in to promote the global investor summit at the state’s cost. But it has been busy promoting Brand Modi across the globe by default or design. However, the chief minister’s obsession with spreading the good word about himself around the world is no secret. It merits no elaboration.

The root question is how does one separate the Modi hype from the substance. Right now they are inextricably interwoven. And any effort at free assessment comes back to perceptions again, on what you chose to buy. As a leader he is an achiever and he has a solid body of work to boast about. Whatever his style — dictatorial or undemocratic or non-inclusive — he has delivered for Gujarat, though the distribution of the gains from progress could be highly lopsided. But many areas in the state cry neglect too. The overpowering personality cult tends to bury this concern.

Ranbir Kapoor has a new admirer in Kunal Kapoor

Having made a comeback after a short hiatus, actor Kunal Kapoor is all set to take on new age cinema.

Riding on the success of his recently released comic film Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, Kunal says, "This is a fantastic time for Indian cinema with so many new concepts finding acceptance, so many new minds in technicians, writers, actors...coming together to make our cinema more global."

Amidst all these "new minds" Kunal admires one the most. Talking about Barfi!, Kunal is all praise for Ranbir Kapoor. "I admire Ranbir. When I view him as an outsider, I can tell you he had the opportunity to be the next lover boy of the industry. But he didn't choose to be just that. He consciously chose to take some risks, like Barfi!, Rockstar...and he proved himself right," says Kunal, who lost a lot of weight recently owing to an ailment.

Shahrukh Khan: Ajay Devgn not my enemy

On Shahrukh's Khan 47th birthday, the badshah of Bollywood had a huge cake cutting ceremony with the media that was present outside his home Mannat, in Mumbai.

Shahrukh Khan's upcoming release Jab Tak Hain Jaan (directed by the late Yash Chopra) is embroiled in controversy as the film is releasing with Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar.

1920: Evil Returns

‘1920: Evil Returns’ has all the ingredients which make it somewhat similar to its ‘prequel’ that had Adah Sharma and Rajneesh Duggal as the main leads. This one features Tia Bajpai and Aftab Shivdasani and has a tormented heroine, an evil spirit, her lover who saves her and of course the picturesque locations of England that are presented as an Indian hilly town of the pre-independence era.

Now the question is what is different this time? The answer lies in the movie’s story written by Vikram Bhatt. ‘1920: Evil Returns’ begins with Smriti (played by Tia Bajpai) pining to meet her lover Jaidev, a famous poet (played by Aftab Shivdasani) but she is under house arrest by a jealous evil spirit (played by Sagar Saikia) who does not want the two love birds to unite. Apparently, Jaidev and Smriti have not met each other even once in the two years that they been together and have only communicated only through love letters. While the lovers are desperate to meet, the evil spirit ensures all possible ways to thwart the impending union.

While the first half of the film keeps the viewers desperately waiting to get scared in the real sense of the word, it is the second half which has moments which run a chill down your spine. In fact, the second half of the film is what keeps the viewers hooked on to the big screen for it has all the elements that makes for a good horror film.

However, the film is not free of the glitches. It has its typical stereotypes. Like the zombie-like man who speaks to the graves and evokes more humour than chills. Funnily, in the movie this man has played the part in helping the hero in saving the heroine.

As far as performances are concerned, Tia Bajpai shows a marked improvement in her acting skills since the last time she worked with Vikarm Bhatt in ‘Haunted’. She scores much more for playing a possessed woman and she has done complete justice to her role in the movie’s second half. On the other hand, the leading man, Aftab Shivdasani is a disappointment. The actor has worked earlier in some good films with Vikram Bhatt but this time he has given a lackluster performance and appears drab in certain scenes. Vidya Malvade (she plays Aftab’s sister) and Sagar Saikia give able support to the film.

Debutant Bhushan Patel’s direction is not exceptional; there is still room for improvement. Directing a horror film is not an easy task. But when the script is written by a veteran in this genre, it can be improvised to great extent.

The special effects are captivating and lend a realistic look to the film’s sequences.

Overall, ‘1920: Evil Returns’ makes for a good watch and promises to keep you hooked and booked with all its frightening moments. Yet it is not as good as '1920'. Horror movie lovers may go and watch it for a healthy dose of it. It won’t let you down.

No time to love says Preity Zinta

Bollywood Actress Preity Zinta, who was once in a serious relation with businessman Ness Wadia, says she has no time for love. “I am lucky…I have no time for love…I would like to get married some day. When that day comes… will inform everyone,” Preity told reporters last evening.

Preity was dating model Marc Robinson earlier and when they separated, she started seeing the Bombay Dyeing heir and businessman Ness Wadia reportedly from 2005 to 2009.

Unfortunately, the relation went kaput but the duo remain to be friends because of their association with their IPL (Indian Premier League) team Kings XI Punjab. The bubbly actress has also been linked to Yuvraj Singh, Brett Lee and New York-based hotelier Vikram Chatwal.

But now she is all charged up for her upcoming film ‘Ishkq in Paris’ that also marks her debut as a producer. It was in 2011 when Preity launched her own production company, PZNZ Media.

Preity Zitna was last seen in Deepa Mehta’s ‘Heaven on Earth’, a 2008 Canadian film. The film was dubbed in Hindi as ‘Videsh’. ‘Ishkq in Paris’ also marks Preity’s comeback to films after a gap of two-three years.

“It is a fresh young romantic film. It is not a mature love story. The film is of today’s times. It is the story of today’s generation, how we are,” Preity said.

It’s a rom-com and Priety insists there are no kissing scenes in the film. “The kissing part is missing in the film. I think kissing is not necessary to show the romance part in the film. Kissing does not signify romance between couples. Romance comes from the heart…its a family entertainer,” Preity said.

Releasing on November 2, ‘Ishkq in Paris’ directed by Prem Raj stars Preity in the lead opposite debutant Rhehan Malliek and along with French actress Isabelle Adjani and filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Jab Tak Hai Jaan (Till there is life) is an upcoming 2012 Bollywood film directed and produced by Yash Chopra, written by Aditya Chopra under their production house Yash Raj Films. The film features Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles, making it the first film to pair Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif and the second collaboration between SRK and Anushka Sharma after Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. The film would be Yash Chopra’s fourth film to feature Shahrukh Khan in the lead role and it marks his return as a director after eight years, his last film The background score and soundtrack is composed by A. R. Rahman while the lyrics penned by Gulzar. The film is scheduled to release on the five-day Diwali weekend which begins on 13 November 2012.

About Filming ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’

Initially, the film’s principal photography was expected to commence in November 2011. However, it had to be delayed since Shahrukh Khan wanted to take a break after his two releases in 2011, Ra.One and Don 2. Principal photography officially commenced on 9 January 2012 at the Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai, where a significant portion of the film was completed.

After the schedule in India, the crew began a 35-day filming schedule in London beginning on February 22, 2012. The film was shot under a working title of Production 45. Shahrukh Khan arrived in London on March 21, 2012 and completed filming his appearance on March 26. During filming photos of the actors on the sets were leaked on the Internet, inciting a camera ban by the producers and an increase in the amount of security for the film’s production.
A number of locations throughout the city featured in the film, including the Borough Market, Jubilee Walk, the Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf. A key action sequence was filmed at Shepherd’s Bush by closing down four streets in the area. The schedule was completed on March 27, 2012 at an indoor location in East London. The romantic scenes of the film were directed by Chopra’s son Aditya Chopra, due to the difference in age between the latter and the lead actors.

The climax of the film, initially planned by Chopra to be shot in the mountains of Kashmir, was relocated to Ladakh. This was apparently a suggestion of SRK, whose movie Dil Se.. had been shot in area. However, portions of the film were later filmed in three different cities in Kashmir — Srinagar, Pahalgam & Gulmarg.

Aiyyaa Movie Review – Sillyum, Boringum, Dumbum, Irrititatanum

Let’s start with the good news. Bollywood Actress Rani Mukherjee who came back to the big screen after a long time looks great in a skimpy, black, sequined blouse. Her undulating stomach turns the heat up a notch in what is otherwise a loud and meandering comedy about a woman who falls in love with a complete stranger who smells heavenly.

Rani Mukherji gets some well-timed laughs as the slightly cuckoo, Marathi girl who fantasizes about film stars, idolizes Sridevi and co-habits a derelict house with a family that should ideally be locked up. The music is fantastic and the ‘Dreamum Wakeuppum’ song really gets you going. ‘Sava Dollar’, ‘Aga Bai’ and ‘What To Do’ aren’t bad either.
But the laughs soon dry up as you realize that there is no escaping the offensive shrillness of the characters, the lack of a cohesive story and the total silliness of ‘Aiyyaa’. Here are 5 things that will leave you cringing.

Warning: There’s description of some heavy sniffing and inevitable spoilers. Please stop reading if you haven’t seen ‘Aiyyaa’ yet and do not want us to give away the plot.

The Deshpandes are no ordinary brood. And Aiyyaa is no ordinary film. Wildly wakda (read twisted) in more ways than one, it is a film that defies definition. It careens from the dreamy to the delirious, the realistic to the raucous, and the perfectly logical to the utterly nonsensical as it turns many a time-honoured convention of Hindi commercial cinema on its head.

Many might find its loud, outré storytelling style somewhat difficult to comprehend and digest, especially in the context of the film’s slice-of-life love story predicated on a willing suspension of disbelief. Aiyyaa, Sachin Kundalkar’s first Hindi film on the back of three critically applauded Marathi-language features, revels in flying against expectations with complete abandon.

It falls back on principles of the theatre of the absurd as well as the norms of the tamasha folk form to comment on the skewed dynamics of arranged matrimony and the politics of gender equations viewed exclusively from the distaff side. Despite mounting societal pressures on her, it is the mulgi who calls the shots. She follows her heart – and nose – all the way through to try and get the man she wants.

Aiyyaa blends a dash of magic realism, liberal dollops of wacky humour, broad burlesque sweeps, robust social satire and a mélange of elaborately staged coital dance routines, all brought together by a delightfully freewheeling imagination. Not all of it works though. In fact, portions of the film go askew. That makes Aiyyaa a bit of a mixed bag. But Kundalkar gets enough of the madcap tropes right to ensure that his film stays on course for the most part.

The most striking aspect of Aiyyaa is that its focus is squarely on the female gaze. The hero is the object of desire and it is the girl who does most of the sniffing, drooling and panting. Indeed, sniffing plays a key role in this love story. Meenaxi Deshpande (Rani Mukerji) is a plucky middle class Maharashtrian girl who seeks escape from her humdrum life by frequently retreating into a nebulous dreamscape inspired by her favourite Bollywood divas.

No sequel to Kim Kardashian’s sex tape

Fans of Kim Kardashian’s sex tape will be disappointed to know that there won’t be a sequel, as the company which owns the rights to reality star’s first intimate video with Ray-J, has insisted that there’s no second installment.

Vivid Entertainment boss Steve Hirsch has apparently told TMZ.com that any rumours of another “eye popping” sex tape doesn’t exist and he hasn’t heard of it being touted for sale either.

“We’ve already spoken to the third party that brought the first tape to us. And a second tape, or additional footage from the first tape isn’t being shopped around or even exists,” the Mirror quoted him as telling the website.

But Hirsch did add that if there was a “seller” of any rude tape with the socialite, he will “use all legal means possible to protect our ownership”.

Pop artists are mostly venturing into playback singing: Sophie Choudhary

‘VJ-turned-singer Sophie Choudhary is disheartened with the fact that non-filmi songs are losing prominence these days and that pop artists are turning to playback singing.

"I was more of a pop artist and as a pop artist especially when you are born and brought abroad, you are used to sing for yourself, you are used to see yourself in the video, expressing yourself through music. Playback singers get lot of popularity and prominence," Sophie told PTI.

The 31-year-old feels that for playback singing too, people today relate more with the actors lip-syncing it.

"..Like this is Shah Rukh Khan`s song or Kareena Kapoor`s song...So for someone who has always done own videos that is something difficult to get used to. But at the same time one has to recognise this in an age where media, music channels, radio stations have stopped supporting non film music. But I still want to sing," she said.

Sophie feels that changing equations have made pop artists turn to playback singing.
"Like all the pop singers everybody starts singing playback be it Neeraj, Mika... And everybody wants to venture in this. I would like to sing for films. But I don`t want to become a playback singer permanently. The added advantage is I can sing in different languages like Arabic, French and Spanish.. So I would hope people will use that," she said.

After crooning as a playback singer for Bollywood film `Pyaar Ke Side Effects` the singer-actress has lent her voice for Preity Zinta`s upcoming film `Ishkq in Paris` in a disco number "It`s all about the night", however in French.

The Hindi part is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan.

Sophie has a degree in Political Science in French from Paris. So, her fluency with the language is quite obvious.

"Preity is a dear friend of mine. During an occasion of `Ishkq in Paris` when she saw me speaking French fluently with the French Brand Ambassador she was stunned. Next day Preity called up saying she wants me to a sing a song for her film," Sophie said.

"Though Sunidhi had already recorded the Hindi vocals as Preity plays half Indian and half French girl in the film, she wanted that her character is able to sing in Hindi as well as French to give an international feel to the song," she said.

Apart from singing, Sophie has acting offers in hand, but she is not willing to talk about the projects.
"I have done films. I took a little bit of break as I was bored with the kind of roles that were coming my way. I took time to step back hoping that I will get better work. Today there are glamorous roles with substance," Sophie said.

"I have two projects in hand..I was shooting in Muscat for couple of days I am waiting for the makers to announce. For the other project I am yet to begin shooting. I am quite excited about it," she said. PTI

Bhushan Patel to direct `Ragini MMS 2`

1920 - Evil Returns’ director Bhushan Patel has been zeroed in on to helm ‘Ragini MMS 2’, a sequel to Ekta Kapoor`s 2011 film ‘Ragini MMS’.

"We have signed Bhushan Patel to direct our `Ragini MMS 2` with Sunny Leone," Girish Johar, head of acquisition and distribution, Balaji Motion Pictures, told reporters.

"We loved the promos of `1920- Evil Returns` and for a debut director, he has done a great job with the movie. It is also doing well at the box office. So we are sure he will do justice to `Ragini MMS 2`," said Johar.

After a horror film ‘1920 - Evil Returns’, Patel seems to be a fitting choice to direct ‘Ragini MMS 2’, expected to be a supernatural and horror film too.

The original movie, directed by Pawan Kripalani, featured Kainaz Motivala and Raj Kumar Yadav. In the sequel, Indo-Canadian porn star Sunny Leone will add spice.

Akshay promotes `Khiladi 786` in Pak through video chat

Pakistani fans of Bollywood star Akshay Kumar were in a for a special treat when the actor spoke to them through a video conference link to promote his upcoming movie ‘Khiladi 786’, which will be released on December 7.

The action star took several questions from the fans during the interaction held in Lahore yesterday. "I have been working on having the film`s premiere in Pakistan, for which I will try to come here," Akshay said

Pakistan had become an important market for Indian movies, he said.

"I am thankful to the Pakistan government for allowing the screening of Indian films. The basic purpose of holding this video conference was to expand people-to-people contacts through the media," he said.
Replying to a question, Akshay said he would love to work in a co-production with Pakistani filmmakers and actors.

Recalling his visit to Lahore, he said: "Some 10 years ago, I had gone there. I cannot forget the Lahori food as it was tasty and delicious."

The video conference also marked the formal launch of the music of ‘Khiladi 786’ as a song from the film was played on the occasion. Akshay said the music sense in Pakistan was better than that in India and that Pakistani singers and musicians were extremely talented.

Most Bollywood stars have huge following in Pakistan, where pirated copies of the latest Indian films are usually available before their release in theatres.

Pakistan ended a four-decade ban on the screening of Indian movies in 2006, a move that many in the film distribution business say has helped the survival of the country`s cinema halls. PTI

Son Of Sardaar is not over the top: Director Ashwni Dhir

Forthcoming comedy Son Of Sardaar might be about Punjabis, but it is devoid of any “slapstick humour” and doesn’t focus on any particular religion, claims director Ashwni Dhir. Co-produced by Ajay Devgn, who also stars in the film, the cast has names like Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla.

“Ajay Devgn is not an over the top actor. We have good Punjabi humour in the film. It is all about the dialogues and it is not a slapstick comedy. It is large than life but not over the top,” said Dhir.

SOS release on November 13 and is a remake of Telugu movie Maryada Ramanna. Dhir said that except the plot, the rest has been changed. “Only the plots are same, otherwise both the films are completely different. Son Of Sardaar is a complete entertainment package. It is a Diwali film completely. It has a combination of everything from comedy to romance to action,” he said.

A complaint had been filed in a court against Ajay for allegedly maligning and defaming Sikhs in SOS but Dhir clarified saying although the film revolves around Sikhs, it is not about tthe Sikh religion. “The film is not based on Sikh religion. It could have been a Parsi, a Gujarati or a Muslim…. SOS is about the Punjabi environment. Since Punjabis are larger than life, so is the film,” he said.

The movie is Dhir’s third directorial venture after One Two Three and Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? His aim is to make films that entertain people. “We try to make different kind of films, which must entertain people. People want to laugh while watching a comedy. Son Of Sardaar is about Punjabi values but it is entertaining at the same time,” he said. If the response to SOS is satisfactory, they might turn it into a series, says Dhir. “If it is a hit, then we might make it again as a series. It all depends on how it does at the box office. We will talk after the film is a hit,” he said.

Why did Farah Khan reject Sonakshi Sinha and Parineeti Chopra?

The choreographer-turned-director reveals that she wants a hot dancer as the leading lady in Happy New Year. But she doesn’t want either Sona or Pari for the role. So what exactly is FK trying to say?
Farah Khan is currently busy hunting for the perfect girl who can teach three left-footed males to dance in Happy New Year. And all sorts of names are aiming to make it to this list, we hear. But two gals that our darling birdies thought could make it to the cast were Sonakshi Sinha and Parineeti Chopra. Will they?

Farah, who appears shocked to hear these rumours, has denied it point blank and has even said, “I don’t think a newcomer will suit this role.” Why? Doesn’t she trust a newcomer to whip the males – Shahrukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham – into their dancing boots? Perhaps.

But let’s not forget that the no-newcomer rule isn’t the only criterion in FK’s head. “I need a very good actor who can who can dance very well and look hot at the same time,” she said. So aren’t Sonakshi and Parineeti hot enough for the director? Or maybe she is sceptical about their dancing capabilities. Possible, no? Now if not the newbies, then who could that elusive ‘she’ be – Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone or Katrina Kaif? Perhaps.

So tell us what your gut feeling says, readers: Who do you think will finally make it to the cast of Happy New Year?

Shahrukh Khan or Ajay Devgn: Who will Kajol choose?

We do agree that a lot about the war between Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar and Shahrukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan is a result of hype, but it has also been a great device for generating publicity for the two films. And whether it is a calculated strategy by the production houses or media generated hooplah doesn’t really matter any more.

Both Shahrukh and Ajay have maintained that they are all for the release of both movies on the same date: November 13. But with reports of Ajay Devgn accusing Yash Chopra of monopolistic methods by approaching the Competition Commission of India, the situation has become uncomfortable for his wife Kajol. Despite Devgn’s official statement that this news was just irresponsible reporting, a lot of water has flowed under the disputed bridge.

Kajol, who is close to Shahrukh Khan and the Chopra clan, has been mum about the whole war so far. Apart from Shahrukh being one of her best friends in the industry, she has been close to Yash Chopra and his son Aditya Chopra, who directed one of the biggest films of her career: Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. The Chopras also cast Kajol’s sister Tanisha in Neil N Nikki opposite Uday Chopra in an attempt to resurrect the careers of both young actors.

So the big question is – will Kajol attend the grand premiere being planned for JBTH, or will she show support to her hubby by boycotting the event? Well, the actor is known to make her own decisions when it comes to attending events and, as we know, Ajay never stops his wife from going to the do of her choice.

Wethinks that Kajol will either show equal support to Ajay by attending a special screening of SOS and then cheer for SRK by attending the big premiere, or boycott both movies to avoid that clash and the media reaction to it! Let’s wait and see if this prediction comes true or not.

6 biggest online dating mistakes men make revealed

Men are the worst online dating offenders, an online blogger has revealed.

Ouiser Boudreaux, the ghost writer behind the A(n)nals Of Online Dating, a blog that embarrasses the worst online dating offenders, said that men constantly make the mistake of not being their “best self” online, News.com.au reported.
Here are the six most common mistakes that men make when dating online:

Firstly, men post unrealistic, unclear and plain bad photos of themselves that comprises of them being shirtless, taking part in extreme sports and photos of their younger days.

Secondly, men can be very creepy as sometimes they inundate girls with weird persistent, creepy messages. Then they can be very vulgar or overtly sexual and use pick-up artist technique. Sometimes they even ask them to send their bikini photos.
At times men are also very boring and start conversations with very generic messages “hi” or “hey” and treat the girl as every other girl they have met. They normally avoid reading the girls profile to get to know her better.

The problem that they find hard to avoid is flaunting or boasting about their achievements or assets, in other words they come across as a douchebag.

Another mistake that men make is that they tend to be dishonest about themselves and lie about their age, height, weight and income etc.

Lastly, they don’t take action and keep on e-mailing the girl for eternity due to which sometimes the girls loses interest and moves on.

Filming Breaking Dawn’s vampire sex scenes was awful, says Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart has opened up about the not-so-sexy reality of filming her character’s post-transformation love scenes alongside on-off beau Robert Pattinson in ‘Breaking Dawn part 2.’

“The director Bill Condon kept saying that he wanted to make this one feel like you’re very much inside of the experience,” Us magazine quoted her as telling E! News.

“Like you’re there, you’re sort of a part of it, which is odd. But to do that we had to look directly into the camera instead of at each other.”

The 22-year-old actress admitted that Bill Condon’s direction made for some awkward on-set moments.

“It was awful! I was like, ‘Bill, you’re depriving me of this experience. We’ve been waiting for vampire sex! What are you doing?!” she said.

Katrina Kaif is no exception

People tend to dream of having more whatever they possess. Our leggy lass Katrina Kaif is no exception too. Though she has everything, beauty, glamour, fame, money that a girl can dream, she has her own wish list for the God.

As told earlier she is a great fan of Yash Chopra’s films and wanted to work with the legendary late directory since she saw his film Veer Zaara and her dream came true only after praying at Mount Mary Church for eight years religiously. But that was not the only wish of the gorgeous beauty as she wants more.

“I want to be a part of a cult movie that will be remembered down the ages, I want to go to Mexico and finally I want to conquer the world. A girl can always dream and nothing is impossible when you set your heart on it,” Katrina Kaif confesses her dream ambitions.

She regrets that the Chopra is not in the world to see his last directorial film Jab Tak Hai Jaan also starring Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma as this was the most special film for him.

On being quizzed about her equation with Shahrukh Khan, she speaks, “I had not imagined that one day I would work with him in a movie. SRK is still a gentleman at a time when gentlemanly behavior has gone out of fashion. Right from standing up when you walk in, to opening the door for you, to wrapping a shawl around you in the freezing cold, these are the small things that can make any woman feel special.”

Really Katrina you are so lucky who got her wish fulfilled, we hope your remaining wishes will be heard soon.

Alia Bhatt doesn’t mind locking lips on-screen!

Alia Bhatt, who’s popularity is growing rapidly after making her debut with Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year, says she doesn’t mind doing intimate scenes on-screen.
Alia is the daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, and though she doesn’t mind exposing, she also says only if the script requires.
The 19 year old said: “I don’t consider kissing a taboo. I won’t do it (expose) for the heck of it. If the script demands and it is justified.. will do it. Like in ‘Student of The Year’ I have worn a bikini. I was very comfortable doing that because it was required and it isn’t that I haven’t worn bikini in real life.”
Alia also follows all the films that are produced by the Bhatts, she says she like some but some are just crap. She said: “I love their (Vishesh Films’) films. But that doesn’t mean I love all their films. There are films that I don’t like and I tell them about it too but there are films that I love as well.”
But, Alia made a smart and safe decision by making her debut with Karan Johar’s SOTY. She said: “You can call it safe. Bhatt camp makes films that are different. At the end of the day, it is all about how convincing you are onscreen. Like Emraan Hashmi started with Vishesh Films and today he is a superstar.”

Is Sheetal trying to create rift between Arnav and Khushi in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?

As seen last, Khushi bumped into Aarav (Vishesh Bansal) in a toy shop and Sheetal (Madhura Naik) on the other end ended up in AR designs for an interview. She was shocked to see Arnav as the owner of the company or we should rather say that she pretended to look all shocked. How come on earth a well educated woman like her forgot to do her homework while applying for such a post?

Anyway, now that we have seen Khushi bringing the kid to RM, things are going to take a new turn. At first she will get to know of the child being diabetic and furthermore, Arnav will make her anxious after disclosing about the fling he had with Sheetal in the past.

Perplexed with the things around, Khushi will dig deep into the matter. And it won’t be a shocker if this all comes up as a plan helmed by Sheetal. Because the way she and Aarav have been bumping into Arnav-Khushi, it clearly indicates that she has something major up her sleeve.

Well, it would be interesting to see how Khushi deals with the new trouble!

Arnav and Khushi celebrating their first Karva Chauth in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon!

As for all married couples, the festival of Karva Chauth holds great importance and is the one of those days that helps them in strengthening their marital bond. Same is the case with Arnav and Khushi, who are already dealing with certain insecurities.

So far the viewers have seen that Khushi is quite restless about Sheetal (Madhura Naik) and her past fling with Arnav. Moreover, she even feels that Aarav (Vishesh Bansal) might be Arnav’s son. A lot has been said about the current track and everyone is busy speculating that Aarav is indeed Arnav’s son and this truth will come before Khushi on Karva Chauth. Well, it is yet to be seen how far these buzzes stand to be true. Meanwhile, the Karva Chauth sequence will see Sheetal also observing a fast. This will again create a doubt in Khushi’s mind over the mystery person for whom Sheetal is observing the fast.

Khushi has always lived for others and has made all efforts to bring smiles on the faces of her family and friends. And today, it is she who needs the love and support from all as she is dealing with one of the major insecurities of life. Accepting the fact of your husband having a child from some other woman is definitely not a bearable thing for any woman.

And one can sense how much Khushi might be feeling at this point. While she is fasting for Arnav, we just hope that today she gets to be treated the way she deserves and Arnav does something really special for her. As far as the truth is concerned, let us keep peace and watch out for it to get revealed!
